  • What are oil palm high productive varieties?
  • Currently, most oil palm high productive varieties represent mixtures of closely related Tenera genotypes derived from Dura by Pisifera crosses, designated for both oil and seed production. The mother palms represent several selected individuals of DxD selfings and the pollen donors are recovered Pisifera palms derived from TxT or TxP crosses.
  • How many clonal DXP seeds are produced per year?
  • 1 million clonal DxP seeds to be produced per year. No specs. No specs. No specs. Breeding and selection of pisiferas at United Plantations Berhad commenced in the late1950’s. UPB’s pisifera population is derived from the top selections from WAIFOR, IRHO, INEAC and DOA (BM series) as well as BM119 from OPRS.
  • Are United plantation seeds regulated in Malaysia?
  • United Plantation’s seeds are heavily regulated by both the Malaysian SIRIM Standards for planting material as well as the Malaysian Palm Oil Board. United Plantation’s tissue culture laboratory was amongst the earliest producers of tissue culture banana planting materials in the country and is recognised by growers for our consistent high quality.
  • Is seed germination still a hurdle in oil palm cultivation?
  • However, seed germination is still a hurdle in oil palm cultivation—as in many palm species—because of the relatively short seed storage time (preferably less than 16 weeks), methods required to break dormancy, and long germination and seedling establishment time, up to 9 months in nursery and up to several years in nature.
