  • What is a palm oil screw press?
  • A palm oil screw press was designed, fabricated and evaluated for small and medium scale palm fruit processors in order to mechanize the extraction process and increase production output. The major components of the machine are standing frame, threaded sha ft, speed reduction gear motor, driving & driven pulley and discharge outlet.
  • How much does palm oil production increase in Liberia?
  • According to the Liberia project impact assessment, each unit increases annual palm oil production valued at an average of $16,000 — or approximately $56 million over the life of the expellers sold to date. Stimulated by considerably higher palm oil prices, oil palm growers have increased production in recent years in West and Central Africa.
  • How efficient is a screw press?
  • The screw press was simple enough for local fabrication, operation, repair and maintenance. Powered by a 5hp three-phase electric motor, the screw press has average oil extraction ratio and oil extraction efficiency of17.90 and 79.56% respectively from palm fruit with a production cost of USD650.
  • What is a smallholder farmer project in Liberia?
  • The project aims to increase agricultural productivity and commercialization of smallholder farmers engaged in rice, vegetables and oil palm value chains in nine of Liberia’s fifteen counties namely Bomi, Bong, Gbarpolu, Grand Cape Mount, Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Margibi, Maryland and Nimba.
