Abstract. This paper presents a comprehensive and systematic analysis of synthesis and design of sustainable palm oil integrated biorefinery networks involving multiple
- Is Sudan IV present in edible palm oil samples?
- Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with chemometric methods was applied to detect the presence of Sudan IV in some edible palm oil samples. We studied the samples within the 1200–1800 cm − 1 Raman frequency range. In predicting adulteration, we used 1388 cm − 1 Raman peak that is associated with Sudan IV as our marker.
- Is Sudan IV dye a food colorant?
- Sudan IV dye is used as hue enhancer in palm oil despite the ban as food colorant due to its carcinogenicity and mutagenicity by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) coupled with chemometric methods was applied to detect the presence of Sudan IV in some edible palm oil samples.
- Does palm oil contain Sudan IV dyes?
- By measuring and analyzing the SERS spectra of Sudan IV, prepared palm oil and other palm oil samples, we were able to detect traces of Sudan IV dyes in all four of the palm oil samples provided for analysis. This confirms the prior knowledge of adulteration in them.
- Are integrated biorefinery networks sustainable for palm oil processing in Thailand?
- The objective is to generate alternatives (through synthesize and design methods) of more sustainable integrated biorefinery networks for the palm oil processing industry in Thailand. The products from the palm oil industry are valorized, and a selection of known processing technologies are considered.
