the Congo Basin’s palm oil sector In both the Congo Basin and Southeast Asia, smallholders are an engine of growth in the palm oil sector. In the Congo Basin, however, oil palm production and supply chains differ from Southeast Asia in two key ways: Non-industrial actors
The Congo Basin is rich in biodiversity and stores an estimated 25%–30% of the world’s tropical forest carbon stocks. As agricultural land becomes increasingly scarce in Southeast Asia, and regulatory pressures

Canola oil, a staple in kitchens around the world, has a relatively modern history. Its origins are rooted in the mid-20th century, but its precursors date back much further.
There were no significant changes in chemical characteristics of canola oil after using wet and dry bleaching methods. During traditional neutralization, the total tocopherol

Abstract. The Influence of Traditional and Minimal Refining on the Minor Constituents of Canola Oil. Saeed Mirzaee Ghazani University of Guelph, 2012. Advisor:
Canola oil has unique characteristics such as fatty acid composition and levels of tocopherols, phytosterols, and polyphenols. Canola oil contains about 12% α-linolenic acid (omega-3) and about 65% oleic acids. Also, it contains a low amount of saturated fatty acids (< 7%) compared to other common vegetable oils.
- Are the Congo Basin's leaders paying attention to oil palm expansion?
- There are some early signs that the Congo Basin’s leaders are already paying attention to the potential environmental trade-offs of oil palm expansion – like the Marrakesh Declaration, in which seven African governments pledge a shift towards sustainable, low-carbon palm oil production.
- How much palm oil did Congo produce in 1961?
- While Congo produced 224,000 tons of palm oil in 1961, Malaysia and Indonesia produced 94,846 tons and 145,700 tons respectively. Sixty years later, Congo’s production was stagnating at 300,000 tons, while Malaysia’s and Indonesia’s production had exponentially grown to 19.1 million tons and 44.8 million tons respectively.
- What is the future of vegetable oil in DR Congo?
- Opportunities for the DR Congo The global vegetable oil market is expected to grow in value at over 7% per year from USD 318 billion in 2022 to reach USD 791 billion by 2031, with the palm oil segment being the biggest contributor to this growth [ 4 ].
- Is Huileries du Congo Belge still in business?
- The company he founded, Huileries du Congo Belge (HCB), is still in operation in the palm oil business today, although under a different name, Plantations et Huileries du Congo (PHC).
