Barry Callebaut backs efforts to make coconut more sustainable and expands its cocoa processing capacities in Côte d’Ivoire. Giant cocoa producer commits to including coconut a 100% sustainable ingredient
This oil refining plant is designed for processing dry copra, the daily capacity is 10 tons. Located in Cote d'Ivoire, it started building in july,2013. Below are some of the pictures of this copra oil projetc.
- What is copra oil?
- Copra oil is the crude oil produced by drying coconuts followed by mechanical expulsion that produces yellowish oil. This production method of oils from dry coconut is referred to as dry processing. It is an inexpensive method and is mainly done in India and Sri Lanka. The production of copra oil is described in Sect. 6.3.
- How copra is used in coconut oil production?
- Special attention is given to copra drying methods and by-product utilization in the coconut oil production process. Copra, the dried product of coconut kernels, undergoes a crucial process of moisture reduction to enhance oil concentration and facilitate easy oil extraction from the coconut seeds.
- How is copra oil processed?
- The yellowish crude copra oil produced from copra processing is subjected to various downstream processing steps such as refining, bleaching, and deodourisation processes to obtain colorless oil known as refined coconut oil. The refining of copra oil to Refined Bleached Deodourised (RBD) oil is described in Sect. 6.5.
- What is the most important step in copra processing?
- Drying stands out as the most critical post-harvest step in copra processing, emphasizing the need to expeditiously remove moisture from the coconut. Other integral unit operations in copra processing encompass harvesting, seasoning, dehusking, coconut splitting, and drying.
