- Conventionally, oil extraction from rapeseed is achieved by screw-pressing, either by expeller pressing (full-pressing) or by pre-pressing of the seeds, followed by solvent extraction. Oil contents in the resulting press cakes are in the range of 5 %–10 % (full-press) or 15 %–18 % (pre-press) (Kemper, 2005).
- How to extract protein from rapeseed cakes?
- Three methods are commonly used to extract protein from rapeseed cakes: alkaline extraction, the Osborne method, and micelles formation [ 1 ]. However, these methods have focused on extraction yield, or are not optimised for this plant material.

- The rapeseeds were milled using a laboratory mill (A11 basic, IKA, Germany) and sieved into 1 mm fractions. The obtained fraction of seed material (about 20 g) was treated with petroleum ether (b.p. 60–90 °C) within 7 h. The extraction of the seed oil was done in triplicate. The oil content of the seeds was 40.9 ± 0.1%.
